Every house has a story. And, oh, how I love a good story.

I’m compelled to hypothesize on the real histories of old buildings. Recently, I’ve started to satisfy my curiosity by researching the truth of local house stories in Colorado. And, that’s where this blog started. Housestory began with a selection of brief histories on early owners of some of my favorite everyday homes in Colorado Springs.

I try to post once or twice a week, with original housestories mixed in with more universal community stories–telling tales of the built environment and embracing the art of placemaking.

Thanks for stopping by–I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I do.

  1. I like your blog! I am also one of these crazies who’d like to find out the story behind all old houses… I’ve taken pictures of quite a few – maybe finding out about them all is what I’ll do when I retire in a few years…

  2. Great blog. I too have a strong interest in knowing the past history of a house. In my own for example, which was built in 1926, I often think about the first families who occupied its rooms, and their everyday lives. Imagining them sitting around the living room listening to the famous old radio shows(long before TV), or hearing their voices as they talked about the events of the past, from the stock market crash, the great depression or World WarTwo. Wondering what personal dramas were played out on the stage of the home. So glad I found your blog.

    • Thanks, and thanks for stopping by! I’m glad to know that there are so many of us, obsessed with the history of homes. I do the same thing, imagining the families that first lived in my house, how it would have been decorated, and what the street outside might have looked like.

  3. Very nice blog, entries are interesting without being overly wordy, personal without being a vanity thing. I’ll return. One day I may even visit your city! Michael

  4. Very cool concept! I like your posts about the history of CO Springs and other artistic things around town. Thanks for looking at my blog. Check back often!
