Play Me, I’m Yours

I love the idea of this touring public art project by artist Luke Jerram.

Play Me, I’m Yours began in Birmingham, England in 2008, and has been traveling internationally ever since. So far, the project has placed public pianos in 22 cities.

Only a handful of American cities have hosted Play Me to date, including San Jose, Los Angeles, Austin, Cincinnati, Grand Rapids, and New York City. This summer, it will make it to Salem, Oregon and Salt Lake City, Utah as well as Paris, London and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Read all about the project here. NPR’s All Things Considered ran a story on the Birmingham program, which you can hear here. Click on the links above to read more about each city’s piano adventure.

According to the project’s website, Play Me, I’m Yours has been seen, heard and played by more than 2 million people. Have the pianos made it to your city yet?

First seen via good.

  1. I think it’s a great project ! I hadn’t heard of “Play Me, I’m Yours” before, so thank you for writing about interesting initiatives. Maybe, one day, they will make it to Marseilles, France ! I’m gonna ckeck out your other stories on your blog and I’m sure I’m going to discover great tales ! Thank you for liking my “Frank Lloyd Wright” post !!!

  2. Thanks for posting this story. I remember hearing about on NPR and wishing the pianos would someday come to Texas!

What do you think?
